The bend in the river

One of the biggest commitments we can make to our community and family is taking care of ourselves – it is essential for maintaining a well-being that is going to be called upon time and time again. Taking care of ourselves is a necessary aspect of leading a healthy, fulfilling life.

So how can we make sure that we’re taking care of ourselves? Here are a few things to consider adding to our daily routines.

  • Get enough sleep: Aiming for 7-9 hours of sleep per night is essential for repairing and rejuvenating our bodies and minds. For us, it means we go to bed really early (9-10 pm) since we are early risers.
  • Eat a healthy diet: Fill your plate with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while avoiding processed and sugary foods at all costs. Do this and you’ll be protected against many chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes and you’ll just feel better.
  • Exercise regularly: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day. Exercise helps to improve our physical health, reduce stress, and boost our mood. Walks are a great place to start!
  • Practice mindfulness: Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath, your body, and your surroundings. This can help to calm your mind and bring you into the present moment. Best way to do this? Take a walk! Spending time in prayer and reading my Bible is where I need to start my day.
  • Take breaks: Make sure to take regular breaks from work and other demanding tasks. Step away from the computer, go for a walk, or just take a few deep breaths to refresh your mind and body.

I hope these tips have given you a good starting point for taking care of yourself (even if it’s just a gentle reminder). Remember, when you take care of yourself, you’re better able to take care of everything and everyone else in your life. So make it a priority, and let’s thrive and shine together!
